I think the offense will onc again be among the league's best. The defense is where I have my doubts. For this reason I don't see a MW team crashing the BCS this season.

At 442.8 ypg, BYU comes in 25th nationally (cfbstats.com). Tulsa, who demonstrated to the Cougars an explosive offense, averaged an extra 100 ypg. And BYU was 47th in the country in points per game (30.1) in 2007. This differential (25th to 47th) says to me the offense is competent and not explosive. Big play threats score more points per yard than conservative/possession oriented offenses.

BYU will use primarily two backs that are both over 240. There leading receiver might be the tight end. Collie will put up good numbers, but Michael Reed doesn't scare defenses. I don't doubt they will move the ball, but the offense is not explosive.

I have to disagree with you saying that BYU's offense is competent not explosive. They bring back 9 starters and last year were 15th nationally in yards per game
