Statistical Review: Massachusetts #121

The Statistical Review breaks down teams along a number of performance categories, everything from red zone scoring to field goal percentage, and compares that performance against the rest of the FBS. All 124 teams will be reviewed from 124 to 1 by the hybrid rankings. You can find short descriptions in the table below.

Massachusetts took offensive incompetence to astounding new heights. Wegzyn and Doyle completed only 53% of their passes and averaged less than 10 yards per completion. Michael Cox average 3.6 yards per carry, and that was almost a yard better than the team average. Most important of all, though, the Minutemen scored less than 1 point per possession. An odd result is that Massachusetts was average on 3rd downs despite ripping off explosive less plays less often than almost every team in the country - usually the two go hand-in-hand. The lack of explosive plays combined with an ineffective red zone offense combined to make Massachusetts the lowest scoring team in the country.
